Payment by bank rejected because eBay and PayPal are unreliable
Summary: The discussion involved karolinerna expressing concern about a bank payment being rejected because eBay and PayPal were deemed unreliable. guangxi_hone participated in the conversation, but details of their responses are not provided in the content.
As in the title... it’s the same card as before, and there wasn’t a payment problem before, although I don’t remember whether a year has passed since my last transaction on eBay or less...
When I try to pay by card, I get a message that the bank rejected the transaction... or something like that. I checked on different eBay sites and it’s the same. I called the bank, and they told me that the eBay site is unreliable, poorly secured, does not meet current requirements for transaction security, and such transactions are being rejected... because each one is supposed to be approved with an epin and SMS password, and eBay doesn’t send them.
I reported it to eBay, they wrote that they would deal with the problem, but some time has passed and nothing has changed.
I tried paying with PayPal and it’s the same; when adding the card, it asks for an epin and then SMS, but after adding the card you can’t pay anymore, because on later purchases there’s no longer a request for an epin and SMS.
At least the good thing is that PayPal won’t steal from the card even if it knows the number, but how do you pay for purchases on PayPal now?
I only have a multi-currency card, paying from a PayPal balance is out of the question because they’d convert it through several currencies and it wouldn’t be worth it... Is there any way to force PayPal to send the SMS codes again for payment verification? Is it somewhere in the settings maybe?
Previously, when I paid with this card on eBay, the system asked for an SMS code, so why doesn’t it ask now?
And the same with PayPal — why, after adding the card, are there no more requests for an SMS code?
How can you pay for purchases now?

OP2 years agoI'm not a seller...
Paypal replied: "our system is not designed for additional confirmations with a password and epin for the card. Our transactions do not require confirmation with epin and a password; if the bank has to perform such confirmations, you should use a different form of payment than PayPal. ..."
Recently paypal tried to extort personal data and they were citing some EU directive; as you can see, this PSD2 directive does not apply to them.😡
In any case, on PayPal you can pay with an epin and SMS password.
Simply after selecting PayPal payment on eBay, after being transferred to PayPal you have to add a card, and then each time you add a card the system asks for the epin and SMS password. Then there is the choice of payment in PLN or the card's original currency.
The same card can be added multiple times even without deleting it.
But you can't pay with the card once it's added. So delete it and add it again from scratch.
I just don't know whether there is some limit on adding a card within a month? They didn't answer my additional questions anymore...
I hope eBay will make changes quickly... and adapt the system; after all, they should care about buyers, otherwise they won't get the commission...

OP2 years agoI don't see such an option on eBay, on PayPal I had some account added once... currently no longer valid.
And how could that help?
At the moment I'm trying to get in touch with PayPal.
What puzzles me is why a code was required before, and now, with the regulations tightened, they've done away with it.
On Allegro or Amazon, for every transaction the system asks for a code, why not here...?
And eBay just sent me: Transaction completion not finished: (...) Continue from where...
But how, supposedly?

·2 years agoAs a seller on eBay, you need to have a bank account linked. Otherwise, they won’t let you sell. They should charge it from that account if necessary.
They hired AI (artificial intelligence), which is why there’s a problem with proper interpretation. Try on FB. There are people there who can help. The problem is eBay-wide and it will take some time before they make the necessary fixes. We are subjected to the beta version.
