Customs duty on eBay from the UK and the US for CDs and vinyl records.

Hello,

I'm new to eBay. I wanted to buy a few CDs and vinyl records from the UK and the US, and I don't know how customs works on eBay. Is this different from the import fee? If so, how? And how is customs collected, exactly.

The buyer does not pay any fees to eBay. They only pay the seller. VAT is collected by eBay on behalf of the tax office and is remitted there.

I understand. And how is the “service fee” charged on eBay? Sometimes it shows up and sometimes it doesn’t, and I don’t know on what basis it’s charged.

First I've heard that eBay charges a fee on top of VAT. Where does this fee appear? Maybe the seller is charging for packaging, handling, because they have such options to choose from when listing the auction?

Interestingly, I checked a few auctions from the UK and a few auctions from the USA and Australia. This fee only shows up on auctions from the UK. And I checked that it is an import fee, not a service fee. In the link I’m sending photos of what exactly I mean. https://we.tl/t-z52KAS7Uwl

Many countries and jurisdictions around the world apply some type of tax on consumer purchases, including items bought on eBay. Whether the tax is included in the listing price, added at checkout, charged at the border, or paid directly by the buyer depends on the seller's status, the order price, the item's location, and your shipping address.

Tariffs up to 150 (or even more now) euros are not charged. You pay the VAT, which eBay will collect when you pay for the purchase.

Thanks for the help. And does eBay collect VAT as that service fee? Or do you still have to pay that additionally?
