Class inspections of ships
Hi, I have a question for the more experienced people when it comes to ships. I’m wondering whether these class inspections people talk about so much are always mandatory? Is there any way to get around them? I’m worried it will be a big expense, and I’m not sure whether it’s necessary.

·1 year agoClass inspections are mandatory if you want your vessel to be approved for operation by classification societies (e.g. DNV, BV, PRS). There’s no way around it, because that’s the basis of safety at sea. Companies like Nurek Service (link: https://nurekservice.pl/) carry out such inspections underwater. They do, among other things, panel inspections, which allow a thorough check of the condition of the hull or propellers without having to take the vessel out of the water. In practice, this can even save money, because you avoid a long docking downtime. And it’s important that after such an inspection you have a full report confirming compliance with the requirements. It’s better to do it properly once than to later worry about the consequences of neglect.
