The European Union (EU) is introducing the Directive on a universal charger, aimed at reducing electronic waste by designating one type of charger for certain devices with a charging function. This directive applies only to business sellers.
From December 28, 2024, only devices with USB-C charging ports may be offered or sold in EU and Northern Ireland markets. Business sellers must also offer buyers the option to purchase an electronic device without a charger and must include additional information in such offers.
Remember that these new requirements do not apply to products that are already offered for sale or were sold in EU and Northern Ireland markets before December 28, 2024.
