I have a question, because I don’t quite understand the rules in the case of returns. I mostly sell to Germany. As it happens, some customers return items. Some do it through eBay, meaning they open a return case, and in that situation it’s clear to me that if I refund the payment, I get the fee back. However, a large number of customers return the item without opening a case, they just send the package back and either inform me about it or don’t even inform me at all. In this situation, so far I’ve been refunding the payment through PayPal once I confirm such a returned shipment. This results in an icon appearing saying that the payment has been refunded and the icon showing that the transaction has been completed disappears. Until now I thought that took care of the matter. But I’m not sure whether in this case the eBay fee is also refunded to me?? After reading the terms, I found out that refunding the payment through PayPal does not automatically mean the fee is refunded too, ... well, that’s nice :-(. Is there someone here who can explain to me how to proceed correctly so I can recover the fees from such transactions returned outside eBay? The rules say that I need to open and close a case, but I’m not really sure how I’m supposed to do that (cancel the transaction after refunding the payment? or cancel it first and then refund the payment through PP?), and additionally I’m afraid that actions like opening cases will further enrage already unhappy returning customers and it will end in negative feedback.

I’d like to bring up an old topic: I sold through ebay.com, i.e. the USA, with a dynamic advertising plan. However, the customer wants to cancel the purchase - if I click cancel purchase at the buyer’s request (more than a few hours have passed since the purchase), a commission of over $600 is still charged... from what eBay says:
"We’re pleased to announce that starting April 1, 2023 we will refund the full final value fee, including the fixed order fee, when you approve the buyer’s request to cancel".
I wrote to eBay asking why this is happening, but I still haven’t received a reply from them. Will this commission not be refunded, or is there a chance to break even? screenshot below:
