The returned item was replaced
Summary: The discussion concerns a situation in which the item being returned was swapped. Questions about how the return was handled become the key point of the conversation between the participants: sk_components, przest_46, and domroszk0. Each of them contributes their observations, although the content of their messages is not specified in detail in the available data.
The buyer ordered an item from me, and its condition was documented with product photos; it was practically like new. Before shipping, I took additional detailed photos of the item to protect myself against potential fraud. The customer reported a problem with the device and sent it back to me. Of course, the returned item was different from the one they bought. It was simply mechanically damaged and incomplete; you could see that at first glance. The most important thing is that the unique serial number on the item was different, and it so happened that I had taken a detailed photo of it before shipping, which proved that the item had simply been swapped. Before processing the return, I reported the issue to eBay, of course describing everything in detail and presenting the evidence honestly. The platform made a decision to fully refund the customer within 5 min... An appeal against the decision was rejected.
Have you had similar situations? I sell occasionally on eBay as a private individual, but I can't imagine running a business with such incompetent and unfair customer service. The item wasn't cheap; it sold for 700GBP. Has any of you tried to seek justice outside the platform through legal action?

·2 years agoWelcome to the club......hehehehe this is nothing new on ebay, it's been like that for many years, I dealt with this over 12 years ago and that's why I stopped selling here because it's rampant and you can't do anything about it.There are "buyers" who make a living from this kind of scam, which ebay and paypal enable them to do.

·2 years agoThat’s exactly the problem, that sometimes scammers like this turn up and the platform isn’t always able to respond appropriately.
From what I’ve heard from others, trying to sort it out through the courts can be complicated and time-consuming, but when it comes to an amount like that, it might be worth thinking about

·2 years agoYeah, on a few transactions I "lost" over 1k euros and got nothing out of it.

OP2 years agoOf course, in my appeal against this absurd decision I was instructed to report the matter to the police, which at the same time means they admit that the buyer switched the item, but they wash their hands of any responsibility and of admitting their mistake. They only encourage scammers to keep acting on their site. At the moment I have reported the case to the European Consumer Centre as a complaint; we’ll see what comes of it. It’s unthinkable to force a refund from the customer without providing proper justification for the case.
