Translator for the contract
Does anyone know whether, for translating a French-Polish contract signed with a company in Poland, I need a sworn translator, or would a translation done by a “certified” translator be enough?

·7 months agoIf it’s a private agreement between companies and no one requires it at the office, then a translation done by a good translator is often enough, even if they’re not sworn. In practice, the parties decide whether they want extra protection in the form of a sworn translation — that can be a matter of trust between partners. However, if that agreement is later to be submitted to some office, court, registry, or other institution, a sworn translation is practically always expected. In the case of French, the difference between a sworn translator and a certified translator comes up precisely in this official context — a certified translator may be a top-notch specialist, but their translation has no official force without additional certification. That’s why with agreements people often choose a sworn translation right away, so they don’t have to do it twice later.
