I’ve just had an unpleasant situation..
a parcel bought on eBay in the USA, VAT paid right away at the time of purchase, the parcel went by DHL to Germany, then some repackaging and Polish post..
today I went to the post office to pick up the parcel and I had to pay VAT a second time.. The lady said it’s not their problem, that’s what they have on file from customs, and if I don’t pay the parcel will be sent back to the sender..
this is insane.. when it goes by DHL I send the documents confirming VAT payment and it’s fine..
has anyone had something similar?

·2 years agoI actually tried that refund link and got a response within a few minutes. They said specifically that the certified customs declaration issued by PP is not enough, because it doesn’t include information on whether the calculated fee was paid. So I hope you paid at the post office by card and not cash, because otherwise you’re screwed.
Generally, it seems to me that our wonderful customs officers are to blame — because they ignore the IOSS number on the package.
In theory, neither Ebay nor PP are making any money from this whole mess (except for that 8.50 collection fee). Unfortunately, because of this I’ll be giving Ebay a miss in the future. Other stores either completely ignore the existence of VAT or settle it under VAT MOSS — in both cases there’s no problem with this double charging.

I didn’t get anything by email, and there’s nothing in the profile messages either.
Can I check it somewhere, or do I have to wait for eBay to get in touch?

I’d like to buy a very valuable parcel now where it says VAT is already included in the price (that’s what it says on eBay) and I’d like to be sure that even if the post office charges it again, eBay will reimburse it
