I have a German eBay account and run local sales in Germany.
I recently started international sales and I have a problem with shipping costs.
In the past, on my old shop, I had an option where customers from other countries would buy items and the shipping costs would only be determined after purchase, entered into the system, and only then would the customer pay.
Now I don't see such an option - there's only a detailed shipping table for different countries (item, weight, and surcharge), but that requires entering the exact weight for each product. Unfortunately, I have several thousand of them and it's logistically impossible.
Is it really not possible to enable sales to other countries without setting specific shipping costs?
I should add that setting an average amount is also out of the question, because there are quite a few regions and the price differences are too large.

·11 years agoIn Shipping abroad at the bottom you should have the option Other shipping locations — buyers will contact you about the costs, and there you set Shipping worldwide. Countries you don't ship to are set in Excluded shipping locations.
It's just better to calculate and list the shipping cost in the listing right away, so the customer knows immediately what to expect; if they don't know, they won't buy, or sometimes there are idiots who buy when there's no shipping cost listed and then buy elsewhere, and contact with such a person just dies off.

OP11 years agoI just can’t see any option anywhere to not set a shipping price - only to have customers get in touch.
In the first attachment it makes you enter a price - if I don’t enter one, the system still puts in zeros and free shipping gets set.
This price stops being taken into account if I check below "Adopt shipping cost table for international shipping".
Then it takes the data from the cost table (in the green frame).
Can anyone see what needs to be checked so that the buyer contacts me to agree the shipping cost to their country?

·11 years agoI set up this option on ebay.de for a client in the moto section - a shipping table for abroad created only for the most commonly used options + information - in order to determine shipping costs for other countries - please contact us (the information was generated automatically)

OP11 years agoAnd do you remember where this was set, this information for determining the cost? Ebay has changed a lot on the site lately..
And did you set some specific price in that table? I've been setting it up in different ways and it always comes out either free or with a specific price - and where is that info for the customer that the price is only to be determined later? Does it appear after purchase?
Could someone check this on their end?

·11 years agoyou set in "Packaging and Shipping" the shipping to worldwide, you add country restrictions and enter an individual list. If the customer selects, when checking shipping costs, a country from the restricted ones - a message will appear saying they need to contact the seller to determine the shipping costs.
Here you have what it looks like on the example of New Caledonia:
This item ships to New Caledonia, but the seller has not set any shipping options. contact the seller- opens in a new window or tag and ask what shipping method can be used to ship to your location.

OP11 years agoThanks for the info, I even caught a glimpse of that message somewhere today.. But then I guess the buyer doesn’t have the option to buy that item?
And the client claims that there used to be such an option, that people from abroad would buy items (they’d agree on the costs beforehand) and after the purchase there was an option in the panel to add the appropriate shipping costs. So the client would receive, after the purchase, information with the costs based on which they made the payment.. I wonder if it still works like that.. I’m going on testing further.
