I’m asking experienced users for advice. I bought a new set of books from GB, and they arrived dented; they weren’t protected in the package in any way. They were supposed to be a gift, and the dents are bad enough that I don’t want to give them like that (they look more like outlet items). The seller advises opening a case as item arrived damaged - I don’t see that option, except for the return option with that choice. The books cost 35 pounds, shipping to me was GBP 15, import fees GBP 5. Who pays for sending the books back? Are the shipping costs to me and the import fees refunded to me?

·2 years agoAfter the seller receives it (the shipment with a tracking number), you will receive a full refund.
The return shipping cost should be covered by the seller by providing a return label. Unfortunately, this is only possible within the seller’s country (unless something has changed since last year). Ask the seller for a label. I doubt they’ll agree. If they don’t, then unfortunately the return shipping cost is on you, with no prospect of getting it back.
I’m not surprised that in such a case (though not only then) the proverbial.... brick is sent back.

OP2 years agoI asked the seller who pays for shipping and whether they reimburse the shipping costs to me, and he replied that "ebay GSP". Do I understand correctly that ebay refunds everything? On the one hand, it's the proverbial brick - useless to me, but on the other hand it's not completely destroyed. It's the seller's fault that he didn't secure the books in any way, not the courier company's. Maybe it's better to try a refund through PayPal?

·2 years agoYou need to open a "dispute". If the shipment is damaged because of poor packaging, the seller bears the cost of return shipping.
